Valerie Winn

Valerie Winn has been nominated for Teacher of the Year

About

Valerie Winn joined Le Rondin in 2024 but has been teaching for around 20 years. As a classroom practitioner, her focus has been on developing the skills of learners and helping them smoothly transition into secondary school. Mrs Winn is also the school’s digital empowerment leader, helping pupils and staff develop digital skills.
‘She has a heart of gold and is always smiling and willing to help,’ said nominator Sharon Pengelley. ‘She’s a credit to the school.’
Mrs Pengelley credits Mrs Winn with supporting her son with managing his emotions and developing as an individual, having gone from being non-verbal with most adults to talking and singing with Mrs Winn. Both Mrs Pengelley and her son will miss Mrs Winn during his transition into secondary school this year.
‘She takes the time to meet the parents where they’re at and let them know how their children are doing,’ said Mrs Pengelley.
Mrs Winn said she most enjoys building relationships with her pupils and their families as well as seeing how young people progress in their learning and grow as individuals. ‘It’s been a real privilege to witness special moments when children are mastering something for the first time and the joy and sense of achievement they have in doing so,’ she said.
‘Le Rondin is a very special school community, where every child is celebrated and included. I feel really honoured to share the journey through school with our community of children and their families.’
