About
‘I love working for Avril,’ says a dance teacher who has been nominated for Teacher of the Year.
Tracey Collins has danced from the age of 2. She trained at the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing for three years while working at the Avril Earl Centre.
‘It was a very natural progression to go into teaching,’ she said.
Now she mainly teaches ballet for children aged nine and under, alongside ballet and fitness-based classes for adults.
‘We have a wonderful dance family of teachers, parents and students. This makes my job very enjoyable.’
Ms Collins also engages with children aged between 18 months and three years old. She finds it rewarding to see their progression build during early years.
She also provides free dance lessons for people with Parkinson’s disease.
Her nominators said she inspires islanders of all ages to find their passion for dance.
Those taught by her, they said, know exactly what is meant by this.
‘The love she brings to her role cannot be topped. She is a fantastic woman and I truly hope she is recognised.’
‘Every class I take is rewarding for different reasons, and I thrive on the enjoyment children and adults have for dance, movement and music,’ Ms Collins said.
