Tom Lewis

Tom Lewis has been nominated for Teacher of the Year

About

‘The greatest enjoyment is being in the classroom with the young individuals I teach,’ said Tom Lewis, grateful to be nominated for the award.
‘When you get those light bulb moments and a student realises they can grasp something, it’s just amazing. Seeing pupils grow in confidence and develop as individuals is wonderful.’
Mr Lewis loves the family ethos at Melrose - where he has been teaching since 2015 - which fosters strong relationships between staff and pupils. Outside the classroom, he is keen to offer students a range of activities such as rounders, cooking club, debate
club, and more. Mr Lewis also DJs at every school disco and plays the piano at each concert.
Now in its third year, Mr Lewis got the school involved with Young Voices, an 8000-person student choir in the UK. Growing in numbers each year, 45 pupils are already signed up for the next trip. ‘They get so much out of it. The sound absolutely takes your breath away.’
‘His involvement in every aspect of the school demonstrates his dedication to his career and those who depend on him, going above and beyond the duties required of a teacher,’ said nominator Julie Rowson. ‘We are grateful to have him in our daughter’s life.’
‘He is an incredible teacher, inspiring the children and bringing out the best in them academically and emotionally,’ said another nominator, Faye Grime. ‘He is incredibly empathetic and inspires trust in his students. He is a truly remarkable teacher.’
His nominators credit Mr Lewis for being an engaging and supportive teacher, always going the extra mile and giving up his free time to provide an excellent standard of care and education for his pupils.
Mr Lewis would like to thank his nominators.
