Timothy Neal

Timothy Neal has been nominated for the award for his continued presence in Guernsey’s art scene. The 22-year-old artist has debuted many of his pieces at various local exhibitions and competitions over the past six years.

In 2020, Timothy won the Students Prize from the Sovereign Art Foundation with an acrylic portrait of his twin sister, Frankie. He credits this win as the launching pad for his artistic career. ‘It fuelled my passion for art, making me realise that my love for painting could be more than just a GCSE,’ he said. ‘Producing Twinned Sister was the first time I had my absolute focus on a painting. I was so engrossed.’ 
Timothy won the Judges Prize from the foundation the following year. 
Since then, his art style has shifted from figurative portraits toward more conceptual work. 
He has explored existential thought and abstraction during his time studying Fine Art at the University of Lancaster. His final project focused on creating a highly laboured piece without producing waste, placing a canvas under his work space for mixing paint and to catch any drippings, which turned out to be his favourite piece of the project. 
He also recently debuted an untitled abstract piece at an exhibition at the Gatehouse Gallery. 
Having finished his studies, Timothy plans to submit a piece to Art for Guernsey’s Iconic Trees exhibition this August, and hopes to secure an artistic residency to bring more of his ideas to life.
