The Creativity Trolley team

The Creativity Trolley team has been nominated for the Arts Contribution of the Year Award.

About

The team is made up of two main leaders and multiple other members who provide creative engagement directly to patients at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
Launched in May 2024, the mobile cart is filled with art supplies and creativity packs for both patients and hospital staff, forming a collaborative initiative between Guernsey Arts Network (GAN) and Health & Social Care.
‘The Creativity Trolley offers a meaningful and uplifting artistic distraction that supports emotional wellbeing and connection during what can often be challenging times,’ said the nominator, James Colmer.
‘It is a shining example of the powerful impact of the arts.’
Offering a wide variety of activities such as watercolour painting, sketching, jewellery making and much more, the trolley suits every patient’s needs and allows expression right from their bed. Their reach spans across a variety of wards and departments at the hospital.
‘The impact of their work is deeply felt not only by patients but also by families and staff,’ said Mr Colmer.
A member of the team, Marcel Lenormand, shared their pride in receiving the nomination.
‘It’s a worrying time for people at the hospital, so knowing that we’ve made their day and provided a little bit of a distraction is very rewarding. Often, people in the hospital may feel like they don’t have a lot of control or may feel isolated, so it’s a privilege to know that we are helping.’
