The Communication, Interaction and Autism Service base
The Communication, Interaction and Autism Service base in Forest School has been nominated for Diversity and Inclusion
About
The CIAS supports learners whose needs fall into the broad area of support for communication and interaction, including autism and speech, language and communication needs, and is not dependent on any formal diagnosis.
‘They are a fantastic team of individuals who I believe play a vital part in the community of those individuals with these additional needs,’ said nominator Sammie Le Brun, ‘Without them I don’t think my daughter would have coped at mainstream school and I feel very fortunate that my daughter was offered a place at Forest School with a placement with the CIAS base.
‘They have a vast amount of knowledge and experience and also come with so much empathy and understanding towards the child and with parents too.
‘They are also the individual’s biggest supporters and celebrate any achievement big or small. They help these individuals with independence learning personal and life skills.
‘Forest School is a fantastic school in general, it is so inclusive and the perfect place for the CIAS base to be. It would obviously be fantastic if there were more CIAS base’s in other primary schools.’
‘We recognise that children learn, communicate and experience the world in different ways, and want to ensure that those differences are understood, valued and supported. The service is focused on removing barriers to learning and participation, enabling children and young people to access education, build positive relationships, and achieve positive educational and social outcomes,’ said spokesperson for the CIAS team Dave Stumpf.
