Sue Devine

SUE DEVINE has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero.

About

Mrs Devine is the senior manager and one of the directors at the Mill Street Community Cafe. She has been volunteering at the cafe since 2013 and has been a manager for four years. She is also the catering manager and does a lot of the cooking for the cafe as well as cleaning and serving when needed.
The Mill Street Cafe aims to erase loneliness and poverty on the island.
They provide affordable and free meals, giving people in need somewhere to go.
They also offer cooking classes and hold several social activities.
‘There is a hidden society in Guernsey of people that are lonely and need somewhere to feel welcomed,’ Mrs Devine said.
‘I get a lot out of it and it’s nice to help people in need.
Mrs Devine was nominated by Tony Lee, another volunteer at the Cafe.
‘We help when people are pushed for money, with no stigma attached to it,’ he said.
‘If it wasn’t for her the place would fall to bits.’
Mr Lee especially praised Mrs Devine’s hands-on nature.
'Sue is involved with every aspect of the place, she is always there early and she organises everything,’ he explained.
