Stuart Carre has been nominated for Arts Contribution of the Year

About

‘I TAKE pride in making things sound the best they can,’ says a drummer nominated for the award.
Stuart Carre has played drums for the local band Last of the Light Brigade since 2004. He is self-taught.
‘I picked up all the technical aspects from there, but they change so dramatically over time.’
The band plays at weddings frequently, often averaging one every week during peak wedding season. They have also performed Balcony Gigs at the Cobo Bay Hotel.
As a side gig, Mr Carre helps with sound design around the island. He works for the School of Popular Music, contributing to events around nine times every year.
His nominator said Mr Carre volunteered to manage light and sound for Vale Primary School’s recent production of Oliver Jr!.
‘The stunning lighting sequences and flawless sound design elevated the entire production,’ they said.
‘Stu didn’t just run the tech – he brought the stage to life.’
Mr Carre especially likes the variety of his job.
‘I enjoy being in the shadows, and making things sound and look good when some people don’t realise it,' he said.
