Steve Parrilla has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero
About
Steve Parrilla has spent the last 34 years working at Aurigny in Alderney, serving as station manager for the past 28 years. He initially went to work for the airport for a single summer season and decided to stay on.
‘He is far more than just a member of staff, he is the friendly face that so many people rely on,’ said one nomination.
‘Every day he calmly deals with weather disruptions, technical issues, delayed flights and customer concerns, often under immense pressure, yet he always treats everyone with kindness, patience and a smile.
‘Nothing ever seems too much trouble.
‘His dedication, positivity and willingness to help have earned him enormous respect from colleagues, passengers and the wider community. He represents the very best of customer service.’
Another nomination said: ‘He goes above and beyond for people and families from in an out of Alderney.'
Mr Parrilla said that it was 'an honour' to be nominated. He said that every day at the airport was different for him and had changed a lot over the course of his time at Aurigny. ‘There was no internet at the start. We were handwriting tickets and it was all done manually.’
Mr Parrilla works among a team of seven and handles a variety of roles. ‘I do the same jobs as all the staff. I just have to make sure it all runs smoothly and that everyone’s trained.’
His favourite part of being station manager is meeting people.
‘It’s always nice to see the babies that we medevaced years ago all grown up, stood in front of you, six foot tall.’
