St John Event First Aiders

The participants are a team of volunteers who provide first aid cover at up to 90 public events annually. 
‘I think people don’t really understand that the Event First Aiders are volunteers. I want to shine a light on that,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous. 
‘They go the extra mile just by being there. Many of these events would not be able to go ahead without the first aid cover these volunteers provide.’ 
The Event First Aiders attend bi-weekly training sessions in order to volunteer at various events, including Liberation Day, Le Viaer Marchi, and the North and South Shows.
‘It’s a massive commitment,’ said their nominator. 
‘They’re also a lovely group. They’re approachable and provide a safe place for people at these events.’
Phil Ozanne, community operations manager at St John, has been an event first aider for the past 38 years.
‘I’m proud to receive this nomination,' he said.
I’m glad the volunteers are getting the recognition they deserve. 
‘It can be quite demanding but it is very enjoyable and rewarding.'
