Sophie Ash
SOPHIE ASH has been nominated for Teacher of the Year.
About
Mrs Ash is a Year 1 teacher at St Martin’s Primary School and she has been teaching for 24 years.
She was nominated by Sami Young, whose daughter, Gracie, was taught by Mrs Ash this year. Mrs Young describes her as ‘calm, warm, and welcoming’ when working with both children and adults.
Mrs Ash was praised for creating a relaxed atmosphere in class where the children look forward to coming into school.
‘She reminds me of Miss Honey from Matilda,’ said Mrs Young.
‘My daughter absolutely adores her. Sophie has a daughter similar in age to the children so she’s like a mum to all the kids.’
Mrs Ash said: ‘Seeing the progress of each class I teach fills me with awe and pride.
‘Treating all the children equally is our key value at the school. It’s all about building relationships and gaining the children’s trust.’
Reflecting on her journey through teaching, she said: ‘The children teach us as much as we teach them.
I love that I get to continuously improve and grow in my job.’
