Sophie Appelqvist

Mrs Appelqvist teaches English at The Ladies’ College and is head of Upper Fifth. 
She was put forward by student Katie Lloyd, who praised her teacher for her engaging teaching approach. ‘Mrs Appelqvist spends so much time on lesson plans. Everything is incredibly well-thought through,’ said Katie. 
‘She pushes you to think further with an idea and turn it into something good.' 
‘I’m unashamedly nerdy about English,’ said Mrs Appelqvist. 
‘I find it easier to share a passion with the students instead of imposing a skill set. I’d like to think of my classroom as a space to celebrate the heart of reading.’ 
Mrs Appelqvist was also commended for teaching her students that gender should not be a limitation in their futures. 
‘She empowers us at Ladies’ College to challenge the world,’ said Katie. 
‘It’s most important to me that our young women are given a safe space to have a voice and to be aware of the difference it can make,’ said Mrs Appelqvist. 
‘It’s such a collegiate atmosphere at Ladies. 
'We are only as strong as each other and I’m so grateful for the incredible staff I work with.’
