Sark Community First Responders
SARK’S Community First Responders have been nominated for the Emergency Hero of the Year award.
About
A total of 10 volunteers make up the group, which deals with serious emergency call-outs to assist the island’s only doctor and nurse.
The nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, commends the team for their high levels of dedication and commitment to ‘the safety and wellbeing of the people of Sark’.
The team not only attends calls but they also undertakes ongoing training and assists in fundraising events, such as a jumble sale which took place earlier this year, to raise money for equipment.
‘It is an additionally challenging role as many of the patients are known to the team so there is a deep emotional aspect too. They always treat the patients with the utmost compassion and dignity while supporting each other with emotional and challenging situations,’ said the nominator.
‘It’s great to be recognised for the work we do,' said volunteer Sam Bateman on behalf of the team.
‘It can be difficult on Sark as we have limited resources, so it can often be a challenge to get care quickly, but we do all we can for them
and knowing we are helping people is so rewarding.
‘Our team is awesome, we all work really well together and look after one another.’
