Rowan Tree Farm has been nominated for Sustainability Hero of the Year
About
Rowan Tree Farm owners Becky and Jack Etheridge have been nominated for the award for their eco-friendly farm.
‘They have dedicated themselves to regenerative farming practices, focusing on improving the land and leaving it in better condition for the future generations,’ said their nominator, who wished to remain anonymous. ‘They are the most determined people I have ever met.
'Jack gave up his job to pursue this dream, whilst having two little kids.’
The couple eschew using chemicals or pesticides and last year they produced around 1,200kg of fresh food.
They aim to make Guernsey more self-sufficient, with people going to local producers instead of relying on imports.
‘It is important to me that the kids grow up around natural food and outdoors instead of relying on fruit from a plastic box,’ said Jack.
Becky and Jack also recently opened up an honesty shop on their property and have begun hosting educational workshops to teach people how to become sustainable with their food.
