Rosie Evans

Rosie Evans has been nominated for Sports Volunteer of the Year

About

Rosie Evans has been nominated for the award for her work in athletics on Alderney.
‘She is an incredible advocate for sport as a positive force for mental and physical health, as well as bringing a community together,’ said her nominator.
‘She organizes multiple special events each year, like the Alderney Week Triathlon and RunFest half marathon, while competing at a serious level herself. She set up and organized the Alderney Run Club too.’
Rosie Evans set up the run club 18 months ago, when she realised that Alderney was missing a gap in running events, and with not enough volunteers to set up a parkrun she decided to create something different.
‘We have around 50 people that come to this Alderney Run Club event monthly. Organised sports is so beneficial, especially in a small community,’ said Ms Evans. ‘My proudest moment is watching people of all ages cross the finishing line together.’
‘She is a hugely innovative and supportive leader who goes well beyond the call of duty to encourage and build up runners on the island,’ said another nominator.
‘She is excellent on social media and encourages everybody and turns up monthly for the not-parkrun.’
