Rose Corbet

Rose Corbet has been nominated for the award for her continued contributions since 2003 to the Guernsey Dynamics Football Club, the island’s only football club for those with learning disabilities. 
‘Everything I do is worthwhile,’ said Mrs Corbet. ‘It’s hard work and you need a lot of patience but it is worth it.’ 
Seeing the team develop as players as well as people is the most rewarding part of volunteering, she said. 
‘Many volunteers give their time – Rose gives her heart,’ said nominator Joe Hind. ‘What makes Rose truly special is the impact she has on the lives of the players. She is a mentor, advocate, organiser, and role model whose tireless efforts have transformed lives through sport.
‘Her dedication to inclusion, community spirit, and sporting opportunity would makes him an exceptionally deserving recipient of the Sports Volunteer award.
‘Rose has played a pivotal role in providing sporting opportunities, encouragement, and a sense of belonging for some of our island’s most inspirational athletes.’ 
Mrs Corbet’s roles as head coach and club secretary involve organising training sessions and competitions, raising funds, managing travel arrangements, as well as day-to-day administration. Recently, she took the team to Northern Ireland for the Mary Peters Community Cup, a logistically-challenging but worthwhile trip.
Mrs Corbet first started her volunteering career with the football team at the Special Olympics in Guernsey 25 years ago and has not stopped since. She also volunteers for the Guernsey Gateway Club and Guernsey Mobility.
