Roger Baudains

Roger Baudains, charity-walker, has been nominated for the award by his granddaughter. 
Mr Baudains picked up charity-walking after his wife passed away.
‘I decided to walk the day after the funeral. I decided not to mope.’ 
In 2024, he raised thousands of pounds by promising to walk around the coastal paths of the island. The proceeds were to be donated to Carey Ward at the Prince Elizabeth Hospital. 
‘The ward was able to buy a bed for people to sleep in for the night, and also vouchers for the people there.’ 
Mr Baudains also does charitable work for St Sampson’s Parish Church by regularly cleaning the gravestones. He works there every day from 5am, according to his granddaughter. 
Paige Le Moignan nominated her grandfather, saying ‘he’s done everything to be there’ since her grandmother died. 
No one in her family expected Mr Baudains to start walking after his wife passed away.
‘We all thought “What are you doing? You’ve never walked in your life” but he did it, and he helped raise money.’ 
She also complimented Mr Baudains for his friendliness. 
‘I guarantee that everyone who passes him knows 
him.’ 
Mr Baudains enjoys taking part in the home choir. His voluntary work at the cemetery also involves ‘making some lovely gardens’.
