Rob Thomson

ROB THOMSON has been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award.

About

Mr Thomson has been involved with with various cricket teams since moving to the island in 2007, acting as secretary of Griffins Cricket Club for 10 years, and volunteering with Guernsey Cricket over the past couple of years.
‘Our island, and especially the sporting community, relies so heavily on volunteers and to be held in such high regard is very humbling,’ said Mr Thomson after hearing of his nomination.
‘The most rewarding part of my role is providing the platform for our island's most talented cricketers to perform to the best of their ability.'
He is now manager of the Guernsey senior men’s squad, facilitating the team’s ongoing development, arranging fixture schedules, and liaising with cricketing stakeholders across the globe.
‘Cricket is unique in Guernsey in that we play as an island on the international stage against other countries, rather than as a club or in a domestic setting,’ said Mr Thomson.
‘Having built and cemented relationships and leveraged off the many strengths Guernsey has, I have been able to position us as a very viable place for teams to come and play cricket.’
Richard Headington from the Guernsey Cricket Board paid tribute in his nomination.
‘His commitment, professionalism, and passion for the game have been instrumental in the team’s recent successes.
‘Rob’s tireless efforts behind the scenes ensured the players were supported both on and off the field, creating an environment in which they could perform at their best.
‘His work exemplifies the spirit of dedication and service that this award seeks to celebrate.’
