ALDERNEY’S Riduna Radio has been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero Award.
About
The online broadcaster, run by around 17 volunteers, has been nominated for its fundraising efforts across the Bailiwick. Since the station’s launch in May 2023, it has raised more than £10,000 for various local charities.
‘This remarkable achievement is a testament to the dedication of their volunteers,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
Some of their accomplishments have included a 36-hour music marathon in aid of Alderney Cancer Relief and a bingo night supporting Diabetes Guernsey, both raising over £1,000 respectively.
‘We created the station for the people of Alderney, so it is important to give back to the community,’ said station manager Ian Taylor.
The nominator also praised the station for their
dedication towards community building, such as offering a slot in the week to Alderney’s youth club.
‘Their mission is deeply rooted in the belief that together we can achieve more.
‘This ethos has guided their efforts in making a positive impact in the community.'
Mr Taylor said: ‘It is an absolute honour to receive this nomination.
'It will be fantastic for all our volunteers to feel recognised for their work.'
