Phil and Rose Corbet
PHIL and Rose Corbet from the Guernsey Dynamics Football Club have been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award.
About
The club offers opportunities for players with learning disabilities.
Mrs Corbet has been involved with the club over the past 20 years, most recently as head coach.
She is accompanied by her husband, Phil, who also coaches the team in the run up towards tournaments.
They are described as ‘incredibly patient and never pressurising’ by their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous. Mr and Mrs Corbet were praised for their commitment to the players.
‘Football can be for everyone,’ said Mrs Corbet.
‘Some of the players begin having been unable to kick a ball and are now playing in tournaments. They seek to give people chances,’ said their nominator.
‘They put everyone before themselves, no matter how long players have been training with them for.’
The couple were also commended for their behind-the-scenes efforts, such as organising fundraising events and taking time off work in previous years so that the club could attend tournaments overseas.
‘Coaching is hugely rewarding,’ said Mrs Corbet, ‘you see the players develop over as little as a couple of weeks and you think, I got them to do that.
‘We have a strong team who we are very proud of.’
