PETE MELASS has been nominated for the Customer Service of the Year award. 

About

Mr Melass works as a passenger service agent at the harbour, which can include checking in passengers, car marshalling, and loading the boat on an average day. 
Holidaymakers James and Nicky Cain recently missed the weekly car ferry to Jersey and were unable to travel by other means as they had their 11-year-old black labrador, Bella, with them. 
‘Pete recognised our situation and wanted to help,’ said Mr and Mrs Cain. ‘He offered to take us to the airport, leave our car on his driveway, and even have Bella, so we could still travel and enjoy our planned holiday.’
The couple decided to stay in Guernsey for the rest of their holiday but wanted Pete’s actions to be acknowledged. ‘It was incredibly generous. Certainly classified as above and beyond.’ 
Mr Melass said: ‘If I can step in and try to do something to make someone’s day better, I’ve done my job. What does it cost me?’ 
He said he loves his job and helping those passing through the port.
‘We don’t know what people are going through. If I can make someone laugh or smile, as far as I’m concerned, my day is done. 
‘It’s amazing they’ve taken the time out of their day to find out about these awards and nominate me. It’s great.’
