Pat Kelly
Pat Kelly has been nominated for Grandparent of the Year
About
One grandmother who has been nominated for the award says that she has always been there for her family and always will be.
‘It’s really taken me by surprise, it’s such an honour and very special to be nominated,’ said Pat Kelly.
‘I’ve never seen it as anything special, it’s just a pleasure to look after them. I support people and get involved without interfering.’
‘She didn’t just look after me, she raised me, loved me, and gave me the safe, happy childhood I might not have had,’ said Declan Kelly in his nomination. ‘I am so lucky I didn’t have to go into care, because my nanny and papa stepped in and gave me a home, a family and a future.
‘I know I can go to her for anything – comfort, advice, or just a hug – and she will be there. Everything she does is with love and she deserves to be recognised for the incredible person she is.’
‘My nanny looks after me when my mum and dad are at work. She helps to calm me down when I get overwhelmed and I can talk to
her about anything,’ said another nominator Charlie Hockey.
‘She is always very supportive of my autism and she is so kind. She makes sure she understands how to help me and I love her so much.’
