Pam Warwick has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero
About
‘We do it because we like helping people,’ said Pam Warwick after hearing of her nomination for the Bailiwick Community Hero award for her contributions to Age Concern Guernsey, where she has volunteered for the past 15 years.
‘It’s a lovely thing to be involved with.’
Mrs Warwick runs the Port Soif centre for Age Concern, which involves running two-hour sessions each Thursday for older people in the area to get together and socialise over tea and biscuits. Meeting the members each week is Mrs Warwick’s favourite part of volunteering. ‘It’s an absolutely fantastic group I’ve got,’ she said.
The role requires some administrative work behind the scenes, such as overseeing the transport coordinator to ensure all members are able to make it to and from the centre.
‘I’m very, very lucky with the team I’ve got, the other volunteers help me very much and I couldn’t do it
without them,’ said Mrs Warwick.
Nominator Jennifer Eldridge said: ‘She is a lovely lady and organises so many things.’
She said that Mrs Warwick makes all members feel welcome, even organising birthday cards for their special days.
Mrs Warwick also organises the transport for days out for members, including a Christmas lunch at St Pierre Park, the Liberation Tea Dance and, for the first time this year, a Chelsea Flower Show afternoon tea. She is also currently planning the centre’s annual holiday to Hayling Island.
