Oakley Francart
OAKLEY FRANCART has been nominated for the Young Achiever of the Year award for his outstanding performances and dedication to fencing.
About
Oakley, 17, is currently ranked sixth in Team Great Britain’s under-20s ranking list. He is also a member of the British Fencing’s Athlete Development Programme in the UK, attending training camps throughout the year.
‘His family is really proud of him,’ said nominator and father, Robbie Francart. ‘With next to no training, compared to those in the UK, Oakley has to work harder than most people.’
Having been left without a coach a few years ago, Oakley has had to design his own training programmes. Despite this challenge, Mr Francart says that his son is looking at competing in European and world championships in the future.
Oakley also volunteers his time at Sarnia Sword Club, gaining his British Fencing coaching qualification in order to coach young fencers. ‘He is an exceptional young man,’ said Yan Milner, president of Sarnia Sword Club. ‘He’s very committed and his enthusiasm is absorbed completely by the kids.
'He makes a huge impact on the club.
‘He’s what every young athlete should aspire to.’
