Notre Dame du Rosaire School

NOTRE DAME DU ROSAIRE Primary School has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion award for always going above and beyond to ensure every student feels included and supported.

About

Sarah Pickard nominated the school for all its efforts to ensure her son has been included in every activity.
‘My son has multiple allergies and carries EpiPens. When he first joined the school, seven years ago, we were of course worried but we needn’t have worried as the staff have been amazing,’ said Mrs Pickard.
On various occasions the teachers catered for Mrs Pickard’s son, such as making their own Play-Doh recipe, having dairy and gluten-free cookery lessons, and ensuring dairy-free ice cream was available. ‘The teachers were always prepared and the school has done a fantastic job to make sure our son has been included and felt safe,’ said Mrs Pickard.
The headteacher, Mary Robertshaw spoke on behalf of the school’s team: ‘We are incredibly proud to have been nominated. It’s always humbling to know that the values we live out every day are felt and appreciated by our school community,’ she said.
Diversity and inclusion are woven into the way the teachers think, plan and teach the children at the school. ‘When children have specific medical needs, or any other additional need, we don’t see it as a barrier. We see it as a reason to adapt,’ said Mrs Robertshaw.
‘To us, inclusion means every child feeling that they belong and having full access to all the opportunities that the school offers.’
