Mya Vaudin
MYA VAUDIN has been nominated for the Young Achiever of the Year award.
About
Described by her nominator Emma Wilkins as ‘caring, enthusiastic, and positive’, 14-year-old Mya was
commended for always going the extra mile for her friends, the local community, and in her hobbies too.
Mya teaches around three times a week at the Guernsey Tumbling & Gymnastics Centre.
‘She is incredible with the kids, making sure everyone feels comfortable whilst they are there.’ Mrs Wilkins said. ‘She is a great role model to all her students.'
Mya said that she loved to see the smiling faces of her students.
‘You can see that they enjoy it and are improving each day,’ said Mya.
‘I would like to be a primary school teacher when I’m older and coaching the kids helped me realise that.’
She is also dedicated to training herself and competed in the British Tumbling Championships in Birmingham this year - while also studying for her exams - and is ranked 11th in England and 13th in Great Britain for the age 15-plus category. She has since been invited into the South Region Tumbling squad, where she is going to train on a monthly basis, subject to available funding.
Mya also lives with Type 1 diabetes, which she takes in her stride.
‘She even brings her joyful character to this part of her life, helping to raise money for Diabetes Guernsey in discos and quizzes,’ said Mrs Wilkins. ‘She is one in a million, let alone in Guernsey.’
