About
She is the lead orthoptist at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital and has been working there for 24 years.
As an ‘unsung hero’ in her field, Ms McIndoe was put forward by Linda Laine for offering exceptional medical and emotional support when she was faced with serious sight problems.
Despite the distress Mrs Laine felt dealing with the unknown of her eyesight, Ms McIndoe was thorough in finding a diagnosis.
‘Psychologically I felt so much better, somebody knowledgeable was on my case and I no longer felt scared,’ said Mrs Laine.
‘Each visit she goes out of her way to explain everything clearly, where I’m at, and strategies to help myself.’
Ms McIndoe said: ‘It’s so lovely to hear, particularly after working in my job for a long time, that people think that I’m doing a good job.
‘I have the honour of stepping into people’s lives, doing what I need to do, and then stepping away and leaving a positive impact.’
‘It’s a truly lovely branch of medicine to be working in.’
Mrs Laine praised Ms McIndoe’s warm and friendly approach that made each visit feel like a ‘big reassuring hug.’
‘She even came to see me while I was having treatment.
‘She’s the most special lady,’ she said.
