Michaela Dowinton

Michaela has seven grandchildren, ages one to eight. Two of her grandchildren also have additional needs.
‘She goes above and beyond to understand each child’s condition,’ said her daughter and nominator, Dana Shales. ‘Not only is she supportive and inclusive but she actively makes reasonable adjustments and advocates on their behalf.
‘She’s always there for you at the drop of the hat.’
Another nominator described her as 'an invaluable support network for our family, providing assistance any day or night,’ 
Both nominators also praised Miss Dowinton for unexpectedly having to look after two of her grandchildren while they family had a sibling in Southampton.
‘She phoned me saying I needed to look after them overnight, but it ended up being two weeks,’ said Miss Dowinton.
During this time Miss Dowinton also had to look after her father, who was in the hospital, and her mother who is in a wheelchair.
‘There was a lot going on, but I enjoyed it,' she said.
‘I do love being with my grandchildren – it makes me happy.
‘It can be challenging but they are the most adorable kids and I’m there if in need.’
