About
Dr Broadhurst-Allen has spent the last 18 years studying the marine environment within the Bailiwick and dedicates her time to ensuring it is sustainable and remains protected.
Described by her nominator, Roland Gauvain, as a ‘very passionate and caring person,’ she has been nominated for her hard work to both expand our knowledge and encourage others to get involved in protecting the island’s marine ecology. ‘Mel has had a lasting impact on everyone. From politicians to children, she is one of the best communicators and her passion for creating a sustainable future is pivotal in her work and personal life.’
Being a part of the Alderney Wildlife Trust since 2007 as both a volunteer and member of staff, Dr Broadhurst-
Allen has hosted a number of events to engage islanders with important habitats.
In 2019, she played a significant role in founding the Bailiwick Eel Grass Exploration citizen science project.
‘This was a joint project between the islands where we could take the community out to show the marine life and a really important habitat,’ said Dr Broadhurst-Allen.
‘It’s so lovely to see a variety of ages show up to the events and become engaged with their environment.’
Dr Broadhurst-Allen has played an important role locally in ensuring the sustainability of our marine life that will continue to have a lasting impact for coming generations.
