Megs Bailey

Megs Bailey has been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero award for her efforts in coordinating the Liberation Community Bunting Project.

About

Mrs Bailey brought over a thousand islanders together to create the bunting that adorned the Weighbridge roundabout for the 80th Liberation Day anniversary celebrations.
Mrs Bailey was surprised to learn that she had been nominated for this award.
‘I don’t see myself as a hero, just someone who tries quietly to make a difference where I can,’ said Mrs Bailey.
Since her retirement, she has involved herself in the community through her love of sewing, which in turn inspired her to come up with the Liberation Community Bunting Project.
‘Organising the project with so many individuals and groups was a mammoth effort,’ said Mrs Bailey.
‘Collecting fabric donations, making bunting bags of all the materials needed, delivering them and collecting the finished bunting was a huge task,’ she added. While challenges were inevitable, Mrs Bailey credited teamwork and co-operation with the project’s smooth success.
‘Being involved with so many people during the project has been the most wonderfully rewarding aspect,’ said Mrs Bailey. ‘I met so many people whom I would not otherwise have come to know. Many have become friends.’
‘Megs and everyone involved really made Liberation 80 the special community event it was,’ said her nominator, who wishes to remain
anonymous.
Mrs Bailey is currently in the planning stages of another community project, involving making quilts in support of local charities.
