Madeleine Ellert

Madeleine Ellert has been nominated for Teacher of the Year

About

Madeleine Ellert has been nominated for the award for her ability to cultivate an enjoyable and inclusive classroom.
After some time teaching in the UK and at the Guernsey Grammar School, Miss Ellert started teaching at Blanchelande in 2019. Having completed her last term as the head of theology, PSHE, and sixth form, Miss Ellert moves back to the UK this September.
‘I like to create a respectable environment where the students are known as individuals rather than a number’, said Miss Ellert.
Her favourite part of teaching is being in the classroom with the students, making lessons relevant to everyday life in order to empower the children to explain and defend their own points of view, while being understanding and inquisitive of other perspectives.
Miss Ellert particularly enjoyed her time at Blanchelande due to its focus on encouraging students to be successful and confident individuals at the end of their studies. ‘It is such a wonderful school with a kind and caring ethos,’
‘She deserves this award because she makes her classroom a safe space and full of joy,’ said one nominator. ‘Students want to be there and thrive, so they learn to their full capacity because they feel nurtured.’
‘Miss Ellert is always there to support and listen and is always up for a laugh with her students,’ said another nominator, Maisie Argo. ‘She’s made such a difference to my year and I’ll never forget that. She has always supported me, even when I doubted myself.’
Miss Argo credits Miss Ellert with completely changing her attitude toward theology, making it a class she looks forward to each week. ‘She is by far the best teacher I’ve ever had.’
