Lucy Hockey has been nominated for Emergency Hero of the Year
About
Lucy Hockey joined the St John Ambulance and Rescue Service in 2024, and has been nominated for the award.
‘There are no words to describe how much Lucy has helped me, she is the perfect example of the person you would want to see when you are stuck in a bad situation,’ said her nominator, who wanted to remain anonymous.
‘I felt so calm in her presence and she was so reassuring, I can tell she will have a great career in this service.
'I think everyone would want her there when they are having a bad day.’
Ms Hockey works as an emergency care assistant, having started a year after finishing her A-levels.
‘I value being in a privileged position to help people, being a person who can bring some hope when they are in a bad situation,’ she said.
‘It is natural to have good and bad days on the job, it is part of it but the whole team always does the job well and adapts to the bad situations – I just want to give back to the community which is something that anyone in the emergency services would agree on.’
