Liz Curtis

LIZ CURTIS has been nominated for Teacher of the Year.

About

Mrs Curtis has been a teacher for 20 years but has been working at The Guernsey Institute for the past six. She is currently the course lead for public services.
She has a varied role including designing the course curriculum, organising trips and guest speakers and preparing the students for both practicals and exams.
Mrs Curtis fosters a welcoming and supportive environment in her class. ‘I try to be humorous with the students – they will need a sense of humour when they graduate and go on to work,’ she said.
‘It’s not all about academics, I teach life skills too, like communication and reliance.’
She was praised by her nominator and student Hallie Lancaster for her continuous encouragement. ‘She’s nothing short of outstanding and goes above and beyond,’ she said. ‘She gives us her thorough support and always tells us she’s proud of us.’
Miss Lancaster also commended Mrs Curtis for organising a memorable school trip to Sark for the whole class.
