About
For his work with Apollo, Liam Doherty has been nominated for the Diversity and Inclusion award.
Mr Doherty founded Apollo as a safe place for young people to learn and grow. The team follows the view that youth work shouldn’t decide for young people, it should let them advocate for themselves.
‘I’m very flattered,’ said Mr Doherty, ‘it’s not the reason that we do this but it’s good to get recognition.’
He said that they try and take the time to provide the support, care and attention that the young people deserve, through the one-on-one sessions, youth groups and adventures that Apollo provides.
‘Liam embodies everything that diversity and inclusion should be,’ said nominator Emma Jayne Wood. ‘He builds environments where difference is celebrated, every voice matters and young people are empowered to thrive.
‘Without him and the Apollo team our young person and many others would have missed out on experiences, friendships, confidence and opportunities that most children take for granted.’
