About
Leon Meakin, who has been working as a football coach for the past 15 years, has been nominated for the award.
‘I have known Meaky for years, and his passion for football is undeniable, he is one of those coaches who always turns up for his team,’ said his nominator who wanted to remain anonymous.
‘He has always been involved in football, and everyone in the football community knows him and knows of the dedication he has put towards coaching especially for the last 10 years.
‘I think his dedication needs to be celebrated, you can tell how much he loves the game.’
Mr Meakin, who used to play football when he was young and then transitioned into coaching in 2011, said, ‘I love being involved in football in the local community.
‘I helped coach the Priaulx team for seven years, and we had some really successful seasons and then I was asked to coach the under 18s team at GFA last year and the development team, which I have been loving.
‘It is lovely coaching the development team and helping their transition from junior to senior football. As we live on a small island I want to make sure that they get equal opportunities that they would get in England.’
