Leo Carpenter

Leo Carpenter has been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year

About

The 13-year-old started playing squash when he was just eight years old and now hopes for a career in the sport.
‘I like the combination of strategy and physical exercise which squash demands,’ he said.
‘My first off-island competition was the Hampshire County Closed as part of the Guernsey squad, where I came runner-up in my age category.’
‘This tournament got me fired up for off-island competition,’ said the budding player, who has now won the county title three times in succession.
Leo has also played as an individual in many England Squash tournaments, including the British Junior Open, which is the biggest international junior competition.
‘I finished 15th in the under-13s which I was really delighted with,’ he said.
‘By the time I aged out of the under-13 age category, I was ranked in the top 10 in England, and I am currently ranked 21 in my first year in the under-15s.’
In 2025, Leo helped to organise a sponsored squash-a-thon, which raised £3,200 to fund local junior players’ travel.
‘This season I played at number one for Elizabeth College in the England Squash National Schools Championships.
‘We made it to the national finals in Birmingham where I won my match in the final and the team won 3-2. It was a great reward for a lot of hard work.’
Leo also competed in the Guernsey and Channel Island squash competitions, winning both in his age group.
‘While I enjoy playing in bigger tournaments in England, winning those meant a lot to me as a Guernsey squash player.’
