Kelly Fay has been nominated for Teacher of the Year

About

Deputy head of pastoral care, Kelly Fay, has been nominated for Teacher of the Year.
After joining Blanchelande in 2017, Ms Fay was the school’s Senco until 2024, when she shifted to pastoral care.
Ms Fay’s nominator credits her with soothing her son’s anxiety over going to school. ‘Since home was his safe space, Kelly had the ingenious idea to meet at the airport cafe as he loves airports and planes,’ said Ms Fay’s nominator. ‘She was the first person to listen to him and ask what the hurdles were for getting into school.
‘She paid attention to what he needed as an individual, patiently taking the time to build his trust and letting him guide the process.’
‘Looking after children who need a bit of extra support has always been the part of the job I enjoy most,’ said Ms Fay. She loves helping the children through difficult times and celebrating the wins along the way. ‘Sometimes the best conversations happen over a cup of tea and a biscuit.’
Ms Fay created the Emmaus Space at Blanchelande. ‘It’s a calm space where children know they’ll be welcomed without judgement. Sometimes they need practical help, sometimes they just need someone to listen.
‘I’d love to keep developing support for parents, especially around anxiety and wellbeing. If we can help parents feel more confident, everyone benefits.
‘Every child deserves to have at least one adult in school who really knows them and celebrates what makes them unique. If we can do that, while working closely with families and having a laugh along the way, then we’re giving each child the very best chance to shine.’
