Julia Jager, Alan West and Louisa Mace

Julia Jager, Alan West and Louisa Mace have been nominated for Diversity and Inclusion

About

‘This trio are simply gold dust,’ said Sarah Bennalick, nominator of Julia Jager, Alan West and Louisa Mace for the award.
Leading members of the Hope Singers Choir, an all-inclusive community choir in support of Guernsey Mind, the three musicians work to offer a friendly, supportive space where people can connect, build confidence and be part of a community. Julia is the choir’s musical director, Alan is the pianist, and Louisa is the choir’s Guernsey Mind representative.
This year, the choir has expanded to include more than 50 regular members. The team proactively found a new place to rehearse at Deslisles Chapel when their numbers outgrew their old space.
‘I love seeing people’s confidence grow and achieve things they didn’t think were possible,’ said Julia.
‘People often arrive feeling stressed or having had a difficult day, but leave feeling brighter, more connected and uplifted,’ said Louisa. ‘It’s amazing the difference an hour of singing can make.’
‘The positivity of everyone is fantastic and a real boost to my wellbeing,’ said Alan.
The choir has mental health first aiders within the group, who provide a listening ear and help signpost people to appropriate support if needed.
‘The Hope Choir simply is the highlight of my week, made possible by Julia, Alan and Louisa,’ said Mrs Bennalick. She said that the trio often swap roles if one member is absent, so that there is rarely a cancelled meeting.
‘You’re made to feel so welcome from the off.’
