Jessica-Lea Cooper-Neville and Matilda Shell
TWO St John Cadets have been nominated for Young Achiever of the Year.
About
Jessica-Lea Cooper-Neville, 17, and Matilda Shell, 18, have been praised for their dedication and stand-out efforts.
Miss Shell has been part of the cadets since she was six years old and Jessica-Lea has been involved for the past three years.
‘They are both fantastic young girls and I think they really deserve a nomination for their efforts and commitment,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
While Matilda said she most enjoyed going out on duty at events and interacting with the public, Jessica-Lea said she enjoyed learning the skills that will help someone else.
Both girls attended the St John Young Achievers reception for Badgers, Cadets and young carers in London last year, meeting Princess Anne, the Princess Royal.
Matilda joined the cadets after her mum did the same when she was younger.
'It’s made me more confident in myself as I’ve been able to treat patients and communicate with the public,’ she said.
Jessica-Lea joined the cadets after moving to the island and wanting to make friendships and develop skills.
‘Being part of St John has been good for me and helped shape what job I want to do when I’m older,’ she said.
Both girls plan to continue their involvement with St John Cadets in the future.
‘I’m so impressed by them, and I hope they recognise their own potential,’ said their nominator.
