Jenny Benjamin

JENNY BENJAMIN has been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero for her volunteer work at the Health Connections Talking Cafes.

About

The events are held in commercial cafes across the island and are a welcoming space for people to join if they want a chat.
They offer wider support and have connections to a bereavement service, playgroup and mental health services. Two of their cafes are also in conjunction with the Family Support Service.
Mrs Benjamin has been volunteering most mornings at Talking Cafes since they first set up, four years ago.
She is currently lead volunteer. She plans, oversees and promotes the service.
‘I gain more than I give,’ Mrs Benjamin said.
‘Everyone has a story, and it is such a privilege to be part of that, even if only for a few minutes.’
Mrs Benjamin’s nominator wishes to remain anonymous but said: ‘What sets her apart is not just her remarkable time commitment, but the personal touch she brings to every interaction.’
‘She walks around and checks on everyone, she won’t forget about your problems, she genuinely cares and she’s non-judgemental,’ they said.
