Jason Hooper

Jason Hooper has been nominated for the Emergency Hero of the Year Award for his dedication and professionalism in an unexpected incident last year.

About

Mr Hooper works as crew manager at the Airport Fire and Rescue Service and last year he stepped in while off-duty to deal with a medical incident at a sporting event.
The nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous, commended Mr Hooper on his actions that went above and beyond his duty. ‘Jason’s efforts demonstrate his high levels of training and stepping in when off duty shows his skills and courage.
‘He truly shows what being a part of such an important and amazing team is about.’
Mr Hooper was also the first recipient of the airport’s fire manager commendation award, which recognises team members' operational excellence outside the workplace.
Mr Hooper expressed that in any situation it is a crew member’s duty to help.
‘We would do it for anybody,’ he said.
He said that part of the job involves ‘putting ourselves in harm’s way’, and not thinking twice about stepping in to help.
