About

After working at Sueco Catering Services for seven years, Mr Ferguson decided to open his own catering business, Cooked by James Ferguson, 10 years ago, offering home and corporate catering. It is based in Rosaire Court and Gardens and also offers lunch service seven days a week for residents at the facility.
‘He employs me and I’m an openly gay male, he’s an amazing guy and I think he absolutely deserves recognition,’ said his nominator, Stephen Logue, who has been a kitchen staff member for five years.
Mr Ferguson has helped many individuals with additional needs alongside offering placement work, helping to increase their experience and confidence in part-time paid employment.
He has recently helped two individuals into full-time employment.
‘My parents ran a youth club so helping these people is something that’s in my blood,’ said Mr Ferguson.
‘I have a godson with Down syndrome, and he’ll always have barriers in the way and that frustrates me.'
Mr Ferguson believes that people with disabilities should not have their chances of a job affected in any way – they should always be treated like everyone else.
‘I’m from Scotland originally, James made me feel accepted when I didn’t want to be here,’ said Mr Logue. ‘He made me feel understood and comfortable, he has so many qualities.’
