Ian Brown

Ian Brown has been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero Award.

About

Nominated for his consistent dedication and hard work, Mr Brown has been ‘responsible for raising significant sums of money and has given a huge amount of support to several island charities,’ said an anonymous nominator.
In the early 1990s, Mr Brown introduced the Rock to Rocque ride followed by his 30-30 cycling challenge in 2008. These events combined have contributed almost £2m. towards Les Bourgs Hospice.
As an honorary patron of Male Uprising Guernsey, Mr Brown has also contributed significantly to the charity’s awareness of male cancers through its very own mountain bike coastal ride, which began in 2012.
Inclusivity has also been an important issue for Mr Brown.
Wheels For You, set up last year, has made cycling more accessible for all.
'Where those affected by a physical or neurological disability are able to participate in cycling,’ said the nominator.
‘The feedback from the riders has shown how much they have enjoyed the sessions and what a difference it has made to their lives.’
Mr Brown was honoured to have been nominated for the award.
‘I am delighted and very grateful,’ he said.
‘There is a feel-good factor knowing those who are not usually provided with the opportunity to cycle have benefited from the Wheels for You sessions.
‘It’s very satisfying to know we have made a real difference to people’s lives.’
