Helen Glencross and Natalie Davidson
HELEN GLENCROSS and Natalie Davidson have been nominated for Bailiwick Community Hero.
About
‘They were the steering team for Liberation Day’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
‘They all showed great strength, leadership, calmness and competence, they did the island proud.’
Mrs Glencross, head of heritage services at the States, is also chairwoman of the Liberation Day Oversight Board. Mrs Davidson was the event lead on Liberation Day. They also worked alongside Rob Moore, Zoe Gosling and the team at Black Vanilla.
The board organised the logistics and operations of the day, including the hampers, cavalcade, aircraft, royal visit and church parade.
‘I spoke a lot to the wartime generation. It's important to hear their experiences and include a balance between the commemorative side and the fun of the day,’ said Mrs Davidson.
‘It’s a significant historical moment.
'I see it as a national day to celebrate our island and its history as well as to look forward,’ said Mrs Glencross.
‘We could really see the community come together and saw pride in Guernsey.
'It was really rewarding,’ she said.
Both Mrs Glencross and Mrs Davidson also wanted to recognise and praise the efforts of the community and the rest of the team involved.
