Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service

Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service has been nominated for Emergency Hero of the Year

About

After being established in 1922 by the States of Guernsey, Guernsey Fire and Rescue Service is a service that has saved countless lives and will continue to do so.
‘They risk themselves daily to protect the people of
Guernsey,’ said their nominator.
‘So many people would not be here today without the work that they do.’
‘It is very humbling, as nice as the recognition is, it is our job and we are happy to do it,’ said nominee fireman Shane Gaudion who spoke for the fire service.
‘Every day is different, you do not know what will happen that day or what you will go into, but that is also the beauty of it. It is a part of the job and it excites us all.’
‘I am glad that we have the ability to go and help someone’s bad day, we are fortunate for the training and equipment we have to help the people of Guernsey,’ said nominee watch commander Alex Clark.
‘The thing we find difficult in this service is due to the island’s size, we do have limited resources, whereas England has multitudes of it, however we are more intensely trained due to that factor.’
