Gloria Dekker and Lucy Ozard

Gloria Dekker and Lucy Ozard have been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year Award. 

About

Ms Dekker is the chairwoman and Miss Ozard is the treasurer and coach of the Sarnia Artistic Roller-skating Club which they have run since 2018. The pair have been nominated for their hard work and dedication that goes on both in front and behind the scenes. 
They were both shocked and honoured to receive the news of the nomination. ‘It really is a great privilege,’ said Miss Ozard. 
The club run skating sessions every Sunday, where a variety of people can enjoy learning the sport. Ms Dekker described the most rewarding part of being involved in the club as, ‘seeing the smiles on people’s faces while they enjoy skating.’ 
Having skated since she was five years old, the sport has always been important to Miss Ozard.
‘It is so fulfilling to be able to teach others in a sport that has always been such a huge part of my life.’ 
The nominator, Vanda Slann, praises the pair for providing an opportunity for people to learn a new skill in a ‘friendly and nurturing environment’. 
‘Not only do these youngsters learn how to skate, but they learn confidence, self-belief, teamwork and empathy towards others. 
‘These two ladies really are very special.’
