Girlguiding Guernsey

The volunteers at Girlguiding Guernsey across the island have been nominated for the Bailiwick Community Hero Award.

About

The Guernsey unit is made up of about 120 volunteers and has been a space for young women to develop value-based life skills.
‘The passion and enthusiasm each volunteer brings to Girlguiding makes a huge difference to the community,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
‘The variety of opportunities they offer has had an impact in building not only valuable skill sets, but the confidence of girls across the island.
'They really are doing the most special work.'
The unit hosts a variety of opportunities for its members, such as camping trips, team-building activities, and travel beyond the Bailiwick, including visits to Morocco and Japan.
‘Some of the women have been leaders for 30 or 40 years. That extent of service shows just how much they care,’ said their nominator
Bailiwick Commissioner Colette Merrien said: ‘We are so lucky to have such a great team of experienced volunteers.
'We are all like-minded and aim for the same values.
‘As a team we are dedicated to providing a safe space for girls to be themselves, to learn and to gain opportunities they might not gain elsewhere.
‘It’s so lovely to hear that people say we are making a difference.’
