Gary Haycock-West

GARY HAYCOCK-WEST has been nominated for Sports Volunteer of the Year Award for his valued work towards the Guernsey Rugby Club.

About

Mr Haycock-West got involved with the club shortly after moving to the island in 2021 and has since taken over as chairman. The club praises him for the considerable change it has undergone since he has been in the role.

‘I am very shocked and surprised to have been nominated,’ he said. ‘It was such a lovely thing to hear.’
Mr Haycock-West has had prior experience in similar roles and previously played rugby himself. ‘I thought I could offer Guernsey my knowledge and experience,’ he said.
‘I am very passionate about the sport so it’s great to see the club’s grassroots, knowing we now have a strong player pathway.’
Nominator Colin Vaudin said he wanted to recognise Mr Haycock-West's efforts for developing the one-club strategy. ‘This has ensured for a sustainable model of funding for now and the future, which is just amazing,’ said Mr Vaudin. ‘Gary also started the Granite trophy which brings together the Channel Islands to play internationally.
‘His efforts have ensured that we can all enjoy live team sport on the island and provide development for our players. Things like this do not happen by chance, he made it happen.’
