Gary Hamon and Jason Lewis
GARY HAMON and Jason Lewis have been nominated for the Sports Volunteer of the Year award for setting up Sark Youth Football Club.
About
Both Mr Hamon and Mr Lewis were pleasantly surprised to be nominated.
Just over a year ago, the pair started to run the Sark Youth Football Club, inviting islanders aged eight and up to have a kickabout on Saturday mornings during term time. There are about 10 children who play football with the club each week.
‘I used to be in the Sark football club when I was younger and there hasn’t been one in a long time,’ said Mr Hamon. ‘We thought it would be nice to give the kids a run around and a chance to play a bit of organised sport.'
The pair wanted to thank Sark Sports Club for supporting them in setting up the football club. ‘They organised for us to do a safeguarding course and relevant DBS checks along with funds to purchase the equipment,’ said Mr Hamon.
‘They turn up every weekend to get the kids involved in the training and have loads of fun,’ said their nominator, who wishes to remain anonymous.
