Flossie Nelson

After being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes two years ago, eight-year-old Flossie Nelson is excited to be nominated for the award.
‘She has faced daily injections, insulin pump and sensor changes, finger pricks, and the constant challenge of managing a condition that never takes a break’, said Flossie’s mother Kelly Hamblin. 
‘Despite this, she remains happy, kind, brave, and full of determination. She never lets diabetes stop her from enjoying life and continues to inspire everyone around her with her resilience’. 
‘Flossie has somehow turned her chronic illness into a positive, and her kindness always shines through in helping others’, said Flossie’s aunt, Corrie Scott. 
‘Flossie has made it her mission to live not only her life to the full but also raise as much awareness as possible to show others it doesn’t define you’, said her uncle, Blane Queripel. 
Outside of school, Flossie enjoys motocross, swimming, and playing with her friends and her brother. 
Flossie has also been helping her father and Mr Queripel fundraise in support of Diabetes Guernsey. Later this summer, the pair are cycling hundreds of miles between Snowdon, Scafell Pike, and Ben Nevis, climbing each mountain with the aim of reaching their goal of £10,000. So far, Flossie has already helped them to reach £9,500. 
‘She’s allowed us to explain her situation to raise awareness, and is always happy to chat to people’, said Miss Hamblin. 
‘She’s a true inspiration and even at her age a role model for anyone with type 1’, said Mr Queripel.
